The Kentucky Association of School Resource Officers (KYASRO) each year
offers multiple $500.00 scholarships for post-secondary education to
seniors. Students are nominated by their School Resource Officer (SRO)
based on the students contribution to safety
or crime prevention in his/her school. It is suggested that SROs
collaborate with their high school and other school administrators/staff
regarding qualified applicants.
The first KYASRO scholarship was
awarded in 2010 and renamed the "James Sticklen
Memorial Scholarship" in 2011. Officer Sticklen was an active member
of the KYASRO Board of Directors who died in the line of duty during
training in March 2011. James "Stumpy" Sticklen
joined
the Alexandria Police Department in 1992 and became a beloved figure in
area schools, where he worked as a school resource officer for nine
years. The
KYASRO Association is privileged to honor Stumpy's memory with this
annual scholarship.
Scholarship guidelines and applications will be available in December 2011 and the scholarships will be announced prior to the
June 2012 KY Safe Schools and Communities Conference in Bowling Green, Kentucky where the scholarships will be presented.
